Phylogeny, ecology, and evolution of Carabidae
Yihang is a first-year PhD student studying the phylogeny, ecology, and biogeography of ground beetles (Carabidae). His research focuses on the evolutionary history and biogeography of Stomis (Carabidae: Pterostichinae), a millipede specialist predator. He aims to determine when the shift to millipede specialization occurred, the driving forces behind it, and potential convergent evolution with other carabid millipede predators.
Beyond this, Yihang is also interested in the speciation processes of carabids in unique environments such as mountains, caves, and underground habitats. He completed his undergraduate degree in entomology at Purdue University, where his capstone research examined the distribution, seasonality, and future conservation of tiger beetles (Coleoptera: Cicindelidae) in Indiana, USA. He has published two research articles on carabid taxonomy.
